BASIC FACTS ABOUT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY


 Physical Activity: Is any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles which results in energy   expenditure.(Neiman,1986).
 Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure.(WHO)

Exercise: Is a physical activity that is planned, structured, repetitive and purposeful of improving on once fitness, improve on the existing fitness or to maintain the already existing fitness.

*Exercise is not synonymous with physical activity; it is a subcategory of physical activity.

Physical Fitness: Physical fitness has been defined in different ways. It apparently means different things to different people. However, there seems to be a basic concept upon which most definitions are based. This basic concept is the concept of positive Health. So Physical fitness and positive health is a dynamic state of energy and vitality that enables one not only to carry out daily tasks, active leisure,time pursuit and to meet unforeseen emergencies without fatigue, but also helps to avoid hypo kinetic disease, while functioning at the peak of intellectual capacity and experience ''joie de vivre".(Neiman,1986).
Wellness: Wellness is more than being free from illness; it is a dynamic process of change and growth.
